General Skilled Migration
The General Skilled Migration program is for people who are not sponsored by an
employer and who have skills in particular occupations required in Australia. Applicants
must be over 18 and under 45 years of age, with good English language ability, obtain
a positive skill assessment and have recent skilled work experience, unless they
recently completed an eligible Australian qualification of two years. Applicants
are required to meet basic criteria and in most cases also achieve the required
pass mark in the points test.
Applicants must also have skills and qualifications for an occupation listed on
Australia's Skilled Occupation List (SOL). See the attached Form 1121i: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf.
The SOL list also determines the number of points for a specific occupation.
Also note that English language ability is a basic criteria for each subclass of visa below. The minimum work experience requirement of 12 months out of the last 2 years prior to the date of application of a visa also applies to most categories below.
Please note that the points test below will only apply to particular onshore applicants. If applying after 1 July 2011 from offshore, the 1 July 2011 points test applies.
